How to shade and different techniques to shade ! 😍😍🎨

Are you interested in shading or drawing? then you are in the right place.

In this blog, we will learn a different kind of shading and methods that how shading is done.😍

This blog will help you to improve your shading also if you are a beginner then you will be familiar with shading.

Shading is one of my favorite thing to do. Using shading you can make your drawing pop up and add depth to your drawing make it look more realistic and attractive. Many artists go with shading. And that's my favorite part to do.

I highly recommend you to see my earlier blog:- https://the-shruti-arts.blogspot.com/2020/10/how-to-start-drawing-for-beginners.html

What is Shading?

Shading is used traditionally in drawing for depicting a range of darkness by applying media more densely or with a darker shade for darker areas, and less densely or with a lighter shade for lighter areas. Light patterns, such as objects having light and shaded areas, help when creating the illusion of depth on paper.

I am going to share some of my favorite techniques of shading with you.

1) Smooth shading:-

Smooth shading is a method of shading a region with a color gradient. Including the depth and the light. This makes your drawing look more realistic. This is my most favorite shading technique and if you are a beginner I recommend this technique is perfect for you.

As you see in these images there is depth, dark area, light area, highlights, mid-tone, core shadow, reflected highlight, cast shadow.

These are some elements of smooth shading which are considered while

doing smooth shading

2)Hatching:-

In this method, lines are drawn in one direction to shade an object. overlapping the lines on each other and stacking layers on one another creates a darker value in this shading technique. leaving space between lines makes the lighter tone in the drawing. The lines are shaped like the object shape i.e) if it's a circle then the curve lines are drawn.

3)cross-hatching:-

Cross-hatching is a method of line drawing that describes light and shadow. ... The lines are cross and drawn by stacking layers and then the darker value and lighter value are formed.
This technique is best for Drawing different textures of clothes, skin, etc.

4) circulism:-

As the word says circulism is the method in which circles are overlapped with one another. Overlapping circles and stacking layers of circles on one another create a darker tone and fewer te layers create a lighter tone. more circles i.e) darker tone is used to show the depth of the drawing. This method is perfect for shading fuzzy, comfy, detailed skin textures.
5) Contour shading:-

This method also includes lines. And it's a bit similar to hatching and cross-hatching the difference is that these lines go with the shape or contour of the object.
That's all for today guys !!! I hope this blog was helpful to you.
This was my most favorite method of shading.
